Buying Guide
- Shape compatibility: Ensure the cover system or reel supports kidney-shaped and other irregular pools. Look for adjustable reels and customizable covers that explicitly state compatibility with kidney or freeform shapes.
- Material and durability: Choose covers and reels with UV-resistant, fade-proof fabrics or robust mesh, plus corrosion-resistant aluminum components for longevity in sunny, variable climates.
- Ease of use: Prioritize motorized or hand-crank reels with secure locking mechanisms and simple installation. A six-strap retention system improves wind resistance and cover stability.
- Installation requirements: Some options are DIY measurement-based, while others require professional installation. Consider whether your pool’s unique shape will benefit from expert guidance.
- Energy and maintenance: Solar-powered reels reduce electrical usage and simplify operation. Consider the climate and pool usage to balance energy, maintenance, and seasonal storage needs.
- Storage and wear: A reliable reel should protect the solar blanket or safety cover during off-season storage, reducing wear and tear from sun, wind, and debris.
- Safety and compliance: For in-ground pools, ensure the safety cover meets local safety standards and provides secure anchoring to minimize accidental openings.
- Warranty and support: Check manufacturer warranties and availability of customer support for custom or irregular-shaped pools, especially with bespoke covers.
